Learn English in Ireland at the Slaney Language Centre
About us
The Slaney Language Centre is a small and personal English language school in the South East of Ireland offering tailor made English language courses to adults and families.
We pride ourselves on our low student-tutor ratio. The maximum number of students in any one level group is only eight.
Our English school is recognised by the Irish Department of Education and is a member of the language school association MEI-Relsa .
Our English language teachers meet regularly to monitor and discuss students' progress and to insure that all our learners' needs are met. All our language tutors are continously developing their personal teaching skills and endeavour to use a wide range of teaching materials which include lessons based on authentic materials.
We use the communicative approach in all our classes.
A good nationality mix is important to us.
In recent years we have had students from Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Latvia, Belgium, Hungary, Finland, Lithuania, Slovacia, Czech Republic, Holland, Sweden, Liechtenstein, Romania, Greece, Japan, Korea, Columbia, Sudan, Mexico, Russia, China, Marocco, Mauricius, Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Cuba, Mozambique, Equatorial Guinea, Taiwan and Thailand.
The majority of our language students are between 20 and 50 years old. The minimum entry age for our group courses is 17. The oldest language student so far was 83 years old.
Our 2011 course programme includes family courses, an Easter course tailored towards 30 plus students, FCE exam preparation courses, a Language and Culture Course in October.
As language learning is not bound to classrooms we believe that students should practise and develop their language skills as much as possible in their free time. We offer optional activities and excursions and also encourage students to join local clubs and take part in
activities.
In 2010 our language students took part in the following activities:
Beachwalks, speed boat trips, fishing trips, hurling (traditional Irish sport) workshops, Irish dancing workshops, kayaking, horse-riding, golf, open air museum of Irish history, International lunches, barbeques, Irish music sessions, bowling, sandcastle competitions, daytrips to Kilkenny, Glendalough, the Hook Lighthouse, the Saltee Islands, Dublin and a weekend trip to the Cliffs of Moher.
Language students receive a warm welcome at the Slaney Language Centre and quickly gain confidence expressing themselves regardless of their level. Many students return to our language school year after year.
